ELAN Redefines Intercom with Away-From-Home Functionality

ELAN Intercom, now available through ELAN Software 7.2 and above, enhances any ELAN control system with a sophisticated audio/video communication platform that enables remote paging and door station monitoring.

ELAN, from leading automation, entertainment and control technology manufacturer Core Brands, today announced the EMEA debut of the new ELAN Intercom. Enabled in ELAN Software 7.2 and above, the breakthrough new Intercom function allows users to link separate ELAN systems, including those running on different networks across multiple locations – enabling families and homeowners to be more connected than ever. The announcement was made at ISE 2016, Core Brands Stand 1-N53 at the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam.

Available now and already winning rave reviews from homeowners and dealers alike, ELAN Intercom allows users to make point-to-point calls globally, to any interface across any linked system. For intercom zones that share the same network, users can “page” to group-communicate with all intercom zones on the network.

“The interconnectivity of separate ELAN systems across different locations provides home and business owners with an ease of communication that was previously unavailable on the market,” said Core Brands Control Products Manager, Robert Ridenour. “A family with multiple residences can communicate through their ELAN system across separate homes, while a business owner can use ELAN Intercom to communicate with employees across multiple locations from virtually anywhere in the world.”

ELAN Software 7.2 and 7.3 automatically refreshes compatible ELAN control interfaces – touch panels, remotes, and the ELAN g! mobile app – with the ELAN Intercom functionality, and seamlessly integrates with the property’s controlled A/V technology. This provides homeowners with an instant unified audio/video intercom system that is globally accessible.

“Unlike hardware-based intercom systems, the ELAN system’s new software-based feature utilizes the A/V infrastructure already established in our customers' property,” Core Brands Software Product Manager, Tom McKeon explained. “The ELAN Intercom supports virtually unlimited zones, and can share speakers with a multi-room audio and video system, with the home or business's current televisions and IP cameras. It also integrates with third party door stations for audio/video monitoring, enabling communication with visitors at their door with from any ELAN interface, whether it’s wall-mounted, wireless or mobile.”

True to ELAN’s mission, the ELAN g! mobile app puts intercom control at the users’ fingertips. From a mobile phone or tablet anywhere in the world, the g! mobile app allows users to answer pages and calls from any point in the network, monitor third party door station audio and video, and control locks—all without incurring a remote access fee. Additionally, push notifications alert mobile device users of incoming intercom communications while a “Do Not Disturb” setting silences the intercom feature for users who do not wish to be interrupted.

What’s more, the ELAN control system’s on-screen display (OSD) interface doubles as a one-way audio/video receiver for pages and doorbell chimes. Using powerful event maps, ELAN-controlled systems can activate displays to show the appropriate IP camera feeds and play chimes through multi-room audio systems when a doorbell is pressed on SIP-enabled third party audio and video door stations, or if a page is initiated from an intercom station.

“Beyond convenience, the new Intercom feature also has safety benefits,” emphasized McKeon. “ELAN is highly customizable, allowing users to use their televisions or computers, in addition to any ELAN touch panel interface or mobile device, to monitor who’s at the door without having to answer it in the conventional way. It offers convenient communication with a built-in security component.”

ELAN Delivers Cutting-Edge Convenience with Small Form-Factor Touch Panel

ELAN’s 4.7” LCD gTP4 touch panel features a proximity sensor that wakes it from sleep mode at the wave of a hand.

Furthering its commitment to providing the most user-friendly and easy-to-use home automation system possible, ELAN, from leading entertainment, control and power technology manufacturer, Core Brands, today announced the EMEA debut of the introduction of the ELAN gTP4 touch panel. This value-priced addition to the award-winning ELAN Entertainment and Control system features an all-new proximity sensor that wakes the touch panel from sleep mode with the approach of a hand, eliminating the need to physically press a button to turn it on. The introduction was made at ISE 2016, Core Brands Stand 1-N53 at the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam.

“The gTP4’s function-specific interface creates an experience that is much more satisfying than using a handheld smartphone to control the home,” said Core Brands Control Products Manager, Robert Ridenour. “Not only does it wake from sleep with the wave of the hand, but it then presents a virtual seven-button flyout keypad pre-programmed for favorite or most common commands. This offers quick access to lighting controls, automation and music presets, and a swipe of the flyout instantly presents the full ELAN control experience.”

Contemporary and sleek, the gTP4 touch panel utilizes a rich 4.7” LCD screen encased behind edge-to-edge touchscreen glass. With 540 x 960 resolution, the touch panel can display crystal-clear IP-enabled and TCP-enabled camera feeds, making it a convenient and aesthetically appealing addition to virtually any room.

For dealers, the gTP4 is easy to install, mounting in a standard 1g US or UK junction box. “The gTP4 mounts in either portrait or landscape,” Ridenour continued. “This allows the installer ample flexibility to position the touch panel accordingly when grouped near light switches or other architectural elements.”

The ELAN gTP4 is available in white or black trim, and is compatible with all gSC series controllers and the g1. For more information, visit Core Brands Stand 1-N53 at ISE 2016.

Eco High Fidelity Installs ELAN Entertainment and Control System in Maui, Creating 21st Century Sustainable Smart Home

Sustainable technology has become a common topic among homeowners wanting to minimize environmental impact without decreasing functionality. When Dattilo Design Group, a Maui-based builder and design company, began rebuilding a Wailea home after a fire, the team was initially hesitant about incorporating smart home technology into the project because their prior experience with ‘smart home’ systems was not a good one. After doing a little research, the group turned to integration firm Eco High Fidelity to install sustainable audio and custom-shading solutions powered by an ELAN Entertainment and Control System.

“When I received the call about the Wailea project in Maui, I jumped at the chance,” Owner of Eco High Fidelity Tommy Kissell said. “Dattilo Design Group’s visions require a higher standard than normal designers. Like all of our projects, we relied on the concepts and methods of sustainability. To ensure the best results, we assembled a diverse group of specialists to create a spectacular state-of-the-art system that would make the Jetson family jealous.”

Due to the home’s open floor plan, flames and smoke from the fire caused damage throughout, including the electronics and shading solutions. However, even before the fire, the owners were frustrated with the technology previously installed. The A/V elements and home automation system were unreliable and prone to service calls. “It’s the same story we have all heard,” Kissell added. “Hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent on a complicated system that ended up requiring constant maintenance.”

To counteract the owner’s struggle with electronics, Eco High Fidelity centered the new A/V system around a simple and reliable ELAN control system. “This ensures that the whole-home automation system functions perfectly and remains fun to use,” Kissell continued.

Allowing the owners to enjoy whole-home audio, an ELAN S1616A multi-zone audio controller was integrated into the ELAN control system. Through the ELAN system, the homeowner can listen to a 250,000-song music library and popular streaming services, including Spotify, Pandora, Maui Native 92.5 and Sirius XM, anywhere in the home.

“Another one of the main highlights of this house is the unique shading solution,” Kissell explained. “To ensure comfort and protect the owner’s art and custom furniture, specialized shading solutions provide daylight harvesting and blackout environments. Additionally, the house has a 35-foot-wide ceiling window over the entryway and foyer, so we had to develop a sun-shield for that area.”

Working closely with Eco High Fidelity’s partners, the team was able to develop customized Roman, Sheers and Ceiling shades, operated through a Lutron system. Fully linked through the ELAN controls, the owner’s can raise or lower any of the shades with the touch of a button.

To operate the entire ELAN system, three 7-inch, in-wall touch panels were integrated around the home. For more portable options, the owners can use several global hard-button remotes or the ELAN App on an Apple iPad. Furthermore, ELAN provides remote access to the automation system, so the designer, homeowner or integrator can access the controls from any web-enabled device.

“Hawaii is becoming a bridge between sustainability and technology,” Kissell concluded. “Overtime, technology will provide sustainable solutions to maintain the integrity of the islands, while still providing the state-of-the-art features the natives desire.”

In the inaugural year of the program, Crystal Nixel™ Awards were presented to AMP Capital for the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre installation in Australia and to Station Casinos for the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa installation in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“The Pacific Fair and Red Rock installations represent a true melding of architectural grace and technological prowess,” NanoLumens CEO Rick Cope explained. “Both of these teams demonstrated advanced technological ability while putting design in the forefront of their projects. It’s an honor to present AMP Capital and Station Casinos with the first-ever Crystal Nixel™ Awards.”

The international Crystal Nixel™ Award winner, AMP Capital, utilized NanoLumens solutions in the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, creating an eye-catching and architecturally unique space to engage shoppers and enhance their overall experience. During this project, the largest curved LED displays in Australia were installed through four NanoLumens NanoCurve solutions. Suspended over the mall’s two key areas – the Oculus and the Myer department store – the solutions offer AMP Capital a highly effective advertising vehicle that stops shoppers in their tracks. Each solution installed completely adheres to Pacific Fair’s aesthetic: bright and dynamic with current content that is classic in style.

Receiving the U.S. Crystal Nixel™ Award, Station Casinos installed the largest 2.5MM pixel-pitch NanoSlim Engage solution in North America. Replacing 18 aging projection systems, Red Rock’s Race & Sports Book is now equipped with three NanoSlim Engage solutions, providing 1,730 square feet of crystal-clear content to engage patrons daily. The three new displays offer exponentially brighter pictures at lower operating costs. In addition, each visualization solution had to fit exactly into the existing openings where the previous projector-based systems had been; the adaptable nature of the NanoLumens technology allowed for exactly that.
