Lititz Fire Company #1 To Receive New Life-Saving Devices Thanks To Donation From Take1 Insurance And Fireman's Fund

Concurrent with the live event industry’s first ever Event Safety Summit taking place on Monday December 1st in Lititz, Pennsylvania, Take1 Insurance, the live entertainment industry’s leading insurance solutions provider, is partnering with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company to donate $25,000 to the Lititz Fire Company #1 on behalf of the Event Safety Alliance (ESA). The donation will be used to purchase four thermal imaging cameras.

A thermal imaging camera allows firefighters to “see” through smoke and darkness and help them quickly locate anyone trapped in a building during a fire. With a thermal imager in hand, firefighters can often locate hot spots inside walls and extinguish them before they spread. It also allows rescuers to more safely scout collapsed floors and other dangerous situations that could result in serious injury or death.

“Thermal imagers used to be considered a luxury, but now they’re a necessity because they can be used in so many different ways,” said Fire Chief Ronald Oettel. “We’re fortunate to have received this grant so we can ensure our fire apparatus and chief officers’ vehicles have this critical, life-saving piece of equipment.”

ESA Executive Director and founding member Jim Digby, a resident of Downingtown, PA, was instrumental in facilitating the grant to the fire department.  ESA was founded in 2012 by entertainment industry and safety experts with a mission to create a common safety protocol for live events. Like the fire department, “everyone involved in live event production has a legal and moral obligation to make safety their first priority,” said Digby.

Fire Chief Oettel, Lititz Fire Company firefighters, town officials and executives from Take1 Insurance, ESA, Tait Towers and Fireman’s Fund will come together for a special public event where the grant will be presented and a thermal imaging camera will be demonstrated.

This presentation will kick off the first ever Event Safety Summit, sponsored by the Event Safety Alliance (ESA), at Tait Towers in Lititz.

The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, providing needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire department and burn prevention organizations. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has awarded grants to more than 2,100 different organizations totaling more than $31 million – including $850,000 in Pennsylvania. Independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like Take1 Insurance, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.

Through this program, Take1 Insurance has directed nearly $80,000 in grants to fire departments nationwide.

“Equipping these first responders with the latest life-saving technology is critical to ensuring the safety of firefighters and others in this community,” said Scott Carroll, executive vice president and program director of Take1 Insurance.  “It can be prohibitively expensive for a department to purchase these cameras and we are pleased to be able to support the Lititz Fire Company in such a meaningful way.”
